antique metalwork > hard-to-find Victoriana > affordable yet highly collectable silver electroplate > AVANT GARDE DESIGN. A RARE HUKIN AND HEATH EPNS SILVERPLATED FRAME WITH FOUR CUT GLASS DISHES. With an early low pattern number "191"! Item: tableware. Type: hors d'oeuvres / nibbles set. Use: serving food. Style: AEsthetic / Modernist. Shape: nearly square in plan. One dimension is larger by the width of the handle. Material(s): silver electroplated on nickel and cut glass. Colour(s): clear and silvery. Designer: thought to be Christopher Dresser. Maker: Hukin and Heath. Mark(s): stamped "H&H" with heraldic device and "191". Date: after 1875 / late nineteenth century. Country of origin: United Kingdom of Great Britain / England. Provenance: Edinburgh marketplace. Size: 8 inches, 20.5 cm high, approximately. Condition: spotting to the metal. One dish has a quarter inch chip which can be seen on the left hand side of the nearest corner in my picture of the whole set. Founded in 1875, Hukin and Heath had a close association with Dr Christopher Dresser throughout the firm's short life. While some of the earlier pieces are marked with Dresser's name this practice was dropped and so we are left to judge whether a piece reflects his revolutionary taste and vision. The starkly elegant piece offered here is fifty years ahead of its time. Email me with your enquiries. Buyer pays postage at cost (INSURED SIGNED-FOR WITH TRACKING). Postage has been worked out for an estimated insured value and packed weight. Postage might turn out to be less but will not be more. A surplus will be refunded. Surface mail is an economical and "green" option I offer but it can take two months to destinations outside Europe. Q. Combined shipping? A. Yes; when there is a saving to be made! With International Signed For services this is not straightforward; multiple small packages can, in total, cost less to ship than one large one which equals the small ones' combined weights. If you are not happy with your purchase for one of the valid reasons eBay lists in the Dispute Console found on your My eBay page you can return it for a full refund including both-way postage. For convenience and safety a complaint must be notified through the Dispute Console or by using the equivalent feature in PayPal. Within 30 days of receipt (checkable), post your purchase back to me packed in the manner in which you received it. Refunds are sent via PayPal alone. A GIFT? © 2004-2008
