I don't know anything about Japanese art, so I'm guessing at all of this, with hopes that someone who knows and can appreciate this piece of artwork will see this listing. I needed a picture frame for something else and took an old drawing out of a frame that my mother had put up on the wall in the mid- to late-sixties, and found this 8" x 11" print underneath. It looks to me like it is a woodblock print, with pen and ink details. You can feel the texture of the black outlining and the white blossoms on the tree and those fallen on the ground, as well as other small detailing. The black and red characters are on the upper right corner of the picture, and the smaller characters, which appear to be in pencil, are on the lower right corner, and would be covered up by the matting if the print was so mounted. There are some small tears around the edges of the paper, and one tear about 1 1/2" long that extends into the blue roof about midway across the picture, which I think can be repaired by a person who knows about such things. It is attached to the backing paper only at the corners. The paper is old and fragile. This is a very interesting piece, and I know someone will enjoy it, as I am sure the image will stir some memories of far-away travels in decades past. Thank you for looking!
