Carte de la Dispersion des Peuples Apres le Deluge Monde - Map Showing the Dispersion of the People After the Great Flood
This hand-coloured copper-plate engraved original Map is of the World After the Great Flood c2000BCE and the Dispersion of the Jews, by Felix Delamarche 1836. The map is from “Atlas de la Geographie - Ancienne, Du Moyen-Age, et Moderne...”, by Felix Delamarche, Published by Delamarche, Paris 1836. Felix Delamarche was the successor to Robert Vaugondy as the Geographer to the King of France, and was one of the best mapmakers' in Frances in the early 1800's. The map is drawn in a style inbetween the styles used in the 1700's style (drawing little pictures of the features) and the mid 1800's when engravings became more "simple" - making it sort of a mixture of the two. The map image measures 41cm by 30cm (16in by 12in) with good margins and centre-fold, is Blank on the Reserve, and printed on thick white paper.
The map shows the World After the Great Flood, and the the areas re-populated by the three sons of Noah. It shows the Known World just after the time of the Great Flood (c2000BCE, if the theory the world is 6000 years is believed) as from the Bible/Torah Book of Gensis, divided up into three areas to represent the different areas of the world that were re-populated by the three sons of Noah - Sem, Cham and Japhet. After the Flood, the only people in the world were Noah, his family and his three sons' families so by Bible tradition they repopulated the world.
The map shows North and East Africa, Southern Europe, the Middle East, Asia Minor, Persia/Central Asia with the major regions/states named. This area is the then divided up into three areas by lines, each of a different colour, that represents which area of the world was re-populated by which son. A Key is shown along the top of the map to shown which colour represents which son - "Colonie des Efans de Cham/Colonies of the Children of Cham". Africa/Palestine was re-populated by Cham, Europe/North Asia by Japhet, and Arabia/Syria-Iraq/ South Asia by Sem. It also shows in smaller font the names of the son's of Sem, Cham and Japhet over the areas in which they then themselves went onto populate, as well the names of the major states. Great map of the Middle East/Mediterranean region regardless.
